Coordinate studies involving cognitive testing in dogs with chronic (arthritic) pain. Responsible for setting up established methods and developing novel assay methods, case recruitment as needed, and obtaining all outcome data. Also responsible for analysis and presentation of the data.
The postdoctoral associate will be expected to carry out independent work, make presentations regarding his/her research, to publish their research results in peer-reviewed journals, to participate in grant proposal preparation, and to interact with other faculty, postdoctoral associates, and graduate students at the University level and across collaborating institutions of the project. All aspects of work will be closely mentored with the goal of transitioning the incumbent to be an independently funded researcher in the area of pain.

The postdoctoral research fellow will be responsible for setting up established methods of testing cognitive domains, and developing and validating novel assay methods, data acquisition and optimization on cognition, sensation, pain as well as blood and MRI biomarkers (as needed) and questionnaires. The incumbant will be responsible for performing bench-top assays as required, and the appropriate data analyses on individual dan combined data sets. The work will take place across the successful and innovative collaborating programs of Dr. Margaret Gruen (https://comparativebehavioralresearch.wordpress.ncsu.edu/) Dr. Duncan Lascelles (https://cvm.ncsu.edu/research/labs/clinical-sciences/comparative-pain-research/) and the incumbent will be activity co-mentored by both PIs.
